I have naturally medium dark brown hair and have never dyed my hair before thus I dont know anything about hair dye. I normally would never do this sort of thing, but at 1 am purple hair sounds a lot cooler. 4 days later my hair is only a little darker than natural but a lot more red. The box said it would wash out it 28 washes but all my friends are telling me this is permanent and I will have to keep dying it because of the roots. I liked being carefree about my hair and I am just hoping that this is not a permanent mess. Egyptian Plum is only fun for the first 12 hrs.

I don't think it will come out completely. Over time it will fade out quite a bit, but you may be left with a very warm color on your ends especially. If you really want to strip some more of the color out, wash with Prell shampoo several times and for a few days at least. In my industry, we know that Prell strips out color and have used it to remove color. Since it is so cleansing, you will want to make sure you use a good moisturizing conditioner also or else you hair will feel really dry and straw-like.

use timoty shampoo it will help strip the red out or baby shampoo and just let it grow out.failing that go to a salon and have a few bleached high lights through this will make it look lighter but don't try to do it yourself lol

It depends on your skin tone. If you have pale skin, or slightly tan skin it'd look beautiful. If you have an olive complexion or darker, don't do red. Red/Brown wouldn't look right. And either way Red/Brown and blond is a DEFINITE no-no. The colors contrasting with each other is so noticeable in a bad way. People will think you screwed up when you were trying to die your hair. It just looks really bad.

I have naturally multi-toned blonde hair with very light brown underneath. I've been thinking about getting some medium brown lowlights in some of the underneath layers (so it does not touch my scalp). What do you think? okay....uhmm I don't know exactly where you're going, there are many branches and extremes to scene; but I'll give you a few ideas.

just make sure you go to a salon with young hairdressers, or they'll be clueless, even with a picture.

and remember, scene hair needs lots of styling.

Frizzy hair...?

I have medium length, straight hair. After I take a shower, it gets all frizzy. I use Garniner Fructis sleek and shine. I use a pick to brush my hair when it's wet, then I brush it later with a hair brush when it's dry and my hair gets frizzy. Is there anything I can do to make it not frizzy without using hairspray or blowdriers/straightners? I don't want to damage my hair. Thanks!

Well I have medium/dark brown hair naturally. I was high-lighting it blonde to "liven" up the color. Well I decided to dye my hair red, I just had to go to a very bright red hair dye. I got a semi-permanent dye and colored my hair. It was BRIGHT red, my husband was nice and said it looked fine but when I went into work so many people were staring at me. Now I want brown hair again. So I used a permanent dark brown hair color the day after using the semi-permanent red dye. It looks terrible. I have a mixture of dark brown, bright red, light brown and blonde. I have no idea why it is light brown and blonde in the back. You should never use a permanent hair dye until the semi permanent is completely washed out. The way semi hair dyes are made is to wash out after a while, and putting something permanent over it turns out exactly as you described. Before you decide to strip it, which will damage your hair a lot, just try washing it several times a day for two weeks, and then redye it. It should turn out then because all of the semi permanent will be gone. Good luck.

I would use none of them. Buy the plastic, magnetic, snap on rollers with the smooth barrel, (like in the second example) and then use a setting lotion to hold the curl longer and make it more bouncy.

Personally i like the wrap snap and go cuz theyre cool and give you a nice curl but the first ones and last ones are the basic rollers and those always work. Dont get the magnetic ones though cuz they dont stay so well sometimes

I'm a 21 year old male with medium length, thin hair and my hair used to curl out, but now it only curls in towards my face. It dries straight, also, not sure if that would contribute to this question... Avoid ultra dark colors like black and dark brown. Also avoid ultra light like champagne or bombshell blonde. I think you would look best in a meduim golden brown with gold tone highlights. The highlights will make you took tanner than you are and also help keep the brown from looking too dark on you. The golden brown will highlight your eyes and give your hair more depth than an ashy brown. Do a cute cut, too. No super long, straight hair. Do layers to show off your facial structure. Good luck!

Hey, i am a guy, and i have medium amounts of hair oil production, so after 3-4 days, my hair gets disgustingly greasy. Now i read in places(online forums), that some just shower without the shampoo, and just rinse. Now I use shampoo, and wash about once a week, sometimes its on a sunday, which leaves my hair awkward and poofy, making me a laughing stock (note i'm in high school, and typical students are very judgemental)

without the use of gels or conditioners/perms or salons. what method could i use to wash my hair, and make it behave? because right now, it only behaves when it's semi greasy and above.

Sounds like you need more conditioner. You have to apply a good moisturizing conditioner to tame that mane. Going 4 or 5 days without washing you hair seems kind of icky. Buy extra moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. Towel dry your hair and apply a palm aide or leave in conditioner. This will keep your hair "unpoofy" and manageable. Then you can put in your gel or whatever you use to style it with. Just remember moiturize, condition and moisturize some more.

It might help if you wash your hair daily and use shampoo for oily hair. Towel drying it will also help.

YOU should not be doing anything else. You have already created unnecessary damage. You need a color correction specialist. It is however going to be difficult to get the entire head an even cool, non reddish tone NOW. If you were in my chair I would heavily highlight through this color with a very mild lightener and then glaze over in a cool tone of lighter brown. Please, please, please do not do anything else to your poor hair. As far as your hair color goes, you don't have a clue what is going on. Find someone who does so they can make you happy and save you from the tears that are headed your way if you keep going. Best of luck.

You should go into your stylist to get it fixed. That is all that I can think of. It is going to be expensive but you will get the look you want if you have some one that is intelligent and knows what they are doing. I highlighted my hair a while ago and it looked so bad. I learned that I should accept the way I look and I should never try to change myself. But I was able to get it back to the way it was by going into my stylist. Good luck!

You're beyond the point of fixing it yourself. Call your local hair salon. Their chemicals will lift what you've applied one layer at a time %26amp; then apply the color that you want. Sorry, but it's your only option now.

If you can't afford to go to a salon, then you need to bleach your hair first. Make sure you get all of the red out, or you'll have to bleach it again. Then, wait about a week or two, and dye it brown.

Ouch!!!! The slight red tint you mention is what is going to make going blonde again a real pain. Don't even try this on your own. Because of the reddish tones, any stripper is going to make your hair look muddy orangey brown. Go to the salon and let the pro try to match your roots (be warned, it may not be possible - you might have to settle for a dark blonde color).

you can get a salon to strip your hair, which will cause damage.

or there are some stripping shampoos out there, at certain salons, but they dont work too well.

if you decide to bleach it, find some Violet hair toner, because it WILL turn out orange, and if you use the toner, it will neutralize the orange and it will go blonde, instead.

just ask your local pharmacy about the toner, or they could have it in salons, im not sure.

If you don't already have layers, it would do wonders. Blow drying it the right way is also a big key. Use a round brush, separate your hair into sections and blow dry near the root under neath your hair.

You will not go from your color to the right shade of blonde. It will appear the red is gone but when you lighten it your roots and old growth wil be two totally different colors.

I guarantee you that if you are not a blonde and you use blonde hair dye on your hair it will not turn the color you want it to. I've tried so on more than one occasion, it never works. Use the bleach kits. They work, and they aren't so bad.. Tip: leave it on at first only on the ends of your hair to save your head from burning, the last 5-10 minutes put it on/near your roots to get the color out from there. When you have a lot of/long/thick hair you need more than one and maybe leave it on a bit longer. But honestly, if you want a specific go to a professional.. but if you're like me.. and just want to do it yourself, and trust yourself a bit better use the bleach kit and even use another product (can't remember what it's called, but you'll know if you see it) to take the orangey yellow color out if you want it not be noticeable through the blonde. Use soft chocolates, greys and warm champagne colours on your eyes. It will bring out the colour, avoid blues and pinks. Use slightly shimmery texture it always helps to wake up slightly tired eyes. Lots of mascara helps (make sure you use an eyelash curler, it works wonders). Use lots of highlighter like YSL Touche Eclat under eyes (also in the inner corner).

For Your lips choose glossy light textures instead of heavy matt lipsticks (it's a simple and effective trick to make you look glam and fresh). Go for soft rose colours with a hint of gold or slightly darker burgundys, try avoiding dark browns as the tend to look a bit dull.

Also using a fresh colour on your cheeks is important, so use cream blushes in warm pinks or a very very light bronzer instead.

i have the same thing. i am 25 but am not fond of heavy makeup either. i use neutrogena foundation in natural buff shade. then blush that i use is more brown then pink. it makes your skin glow instead of look flushed with the dark hair. i use espresso eyeliner and a assortment of brown shades on the lids. i buy the 3 shade compact. i put the darkest shade along the lashes and in the outer corner. i then take the middle shade and cover the entire lid to the crease lightly and then take the light shade which is a creamish color and put that up to brow. i put it all on lightly and i think that it looks like there is something there without really looking like makeup. i use blackest black mascara. the black i think makes eyes pop and it is not noticeable that you have brown eyeliner. it is just a little softer.

Hello, I have been a professional hairstylist for over 17 years, there are different kinds of highlighting techniques, and different kinds of chemicals you can use on the hair to lighten it.

First thing I would do is determine what level your natural color is and then figure out what level/color highlights you would like. (assuming that you don't have any other color on your hair) You can lighten hair with permanent hair color up to 4 levels lighter than your natural color.

If you want your highlights to be more than 4 levels lighter, the stylist will have to use bleach to lighten your hair. In either case remember that hair color will change the texture of your hair a little bit and that you will have to use a shampoo and conditioner that is really gentle and is made for color treated hair.

I would call your stylist and make an appt. for a consultation, (this should be free) look thru some magazines and cut photos of hair color you like, and show them to the stylist. Then if you like what they suggest then go for it. Remember to write down all of the questions you might have, no question is too stupid.

Something to consider before you go, the lighter the color and the more foils that are placed in the hair, the more often you will have to go and more expensive your highlights will be. How noticeable do you want your highlights to be? Highlighting can be really subtle or really bold. I hope that helps. Take Care!

Failing that...you can buy a platinum blonde tint these days that wil lift your hair to the required colour...ask for wella's arctic range and get them to use 12% peroxide...you'll get the colour without causing so much damage.

However without a colour toner it will look grey or white which by the way is platinum.

I have to use a toner that washes in and out everytime i wash my hair. I think it looks cheap and you can tell it's a home job! I'm just about to dye it browny blonde. Don't do it cos it's too much maintenence. If you go to a hairdressers then you'll have to go back there everytime you get roots. My hair is also medium brown. Stay brown blonde and it will be easier to lighten and darken a couple of shades

For such a big colour job, I would really recommend you invest in a good hairdressers. Bleaching hair is a very dangerous process if not careful your hair could end up on the floor. Bleaching hair has to be done in stages as there are different stages of lift, it depends on what pigments you have in yor own hair, on how light you can achieve. You should not leave bleach on your hair for more than 50 mins. Bleach breaks down the outer layers of the hair and if left on too long, can disintegrate the hair. If you make a mistake using bleach it is very hard to rectify, tints will not grip too well to cover over it. You should go to a reputable hairdresser, take pictures in and explain how you want your hair colour to be and a good hairdresser will be able to explain whether its achieveable. Another thing to consider is the overall condition of your hair, it will feel extremely dry, you will have roots every 4-6 weeks, so theres alot of upkeep and cost of going to the salon, and you must be careful in the sun and if you go swimming as yor hair can go green. Best thing for you to do, go for a consultation its free and will give you the best ideas and options

i am doin' up my girl friend and she never wears makeup and i don't really know what goes with fair but olive skin and medium blue eyes? her hair is dark brown but a dark reddish tone in bright light. any ideas? she wants to go very subtle so nothing shimmery or gold. more like something dark we can smudge along the lid really gently to make her eyes pop but not be too obvious, you know? she's a shy girl...

I have the same coloring (but dark blonde hair) and an eyeliner in a bronze or copper, smudged a bit, will complement her eyes, hair, and skin. Stay away from purple or pale blues (though a dark blue would be okay). Shadows in brown, taupe and a coral-pink work great.

Be careful with black!!! That can make her look goth ;-)

I recommend using a dark brown eyeliner pen. It can look very natural during daytime. In the evening you can draw the line a little thicker and smudge to get those sexy smokey eyes.
