im only going to try out those washout ones but i want to know what colour to get, my hair is medium length and at the mo a mid-brown. my skin if fairly pale too. i was thinking an ash blonde colour...

If you will be using a washout colorant you have to choose something along the lines of your current color. They do not change the color per se, they brighten. Pick something in the mid-brown that will perk it up, like (since you mention "ash") choose medium ash brown.
